The Ghost

Looks like it's finally official. This is just one of several articles that say Ewan is going to play the ghostwriter. Filming begins on February 4, so he'll be heading to Germany shortly. I love the sound of this story, it sounds very intriguing. I even found a cool picture.

After nearly two decades, the controversial but extremely talented Oscar winning filmmaker Roman Polanski will finally get back to directing with a contemporary thriller titled The Ghost, to begin shooting in Germany on February 4th of this year. We covered the original news last year when Nic Cage was still attached, but AICN broke the story today about the latest casting details after receiving the press release for the film, which also ably describes the sprawling adaptation of Robert Harris' novel of the same name. Cage has been replaced by Ewan McGregor and will be joined by Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall, and others.

"The movie tells the story of a former British Prime Minister, Adam Lang (Brosnan), who is holed up on an island off the Eastern seaboard of the USA in midwinter, writing his memoirs. When his long-standing aide drowns, a professional ghostwriter (McGregor) is sent out to help him finish the book. The anonymous ghostwriter is quickly drawn into a political and sexual intrigue involving Lang's wife, Ruth (Olivia Williams) and his aide (Kim Cattrall). Hanging over Lang is the threat of a war crimes trial and a mysterious secret from his past that threatens to jeopardize international relations."

As you probably caught, along with Polanski behind the camera and the page, we'll be seeing the now powerhouse cast of Ewan McGregor (taking over for Nic Cage), Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall, Tom Wilkinson, Jim Belushi, and Olivia Williams in front of the camera. I really can't express my excitement for this project enough. I love Roman Polanski. He is a modern day master, deservedly on the same level as the likes of Scorsese, Spielberg, Coppola, and Scott. He's an auteur to the highest degree. And it's great to see him returning to what first made him so great.

I did read that, and may have posted in my journal. I have posted so many articles, I can't keep track.

I am happy Ewan is going to be in a new film, but the director sure has a shady past. He may be a great director, but he hasn't faced what he pleaded guilty to in the US.
I know it's 30 years ago, but I wonder if the 13 year old girl has forgotten what he did....
I know Polanski has quite a sordid past, but I'm just trying to focus on the fact that he's a great director and that the story sounds so good.
Anika---I know I should do that too, for Ewan, but it's hard for me to think that because he is a famous man, he can get away with it.
If it were Joe Blow, down the street, he would have been in jail.
He never would have gotten bond so he could skip the country.

I think this is all I am going to say about it, usless someone else brings it up.

I will think of the actors and the film, and hope it will be a good one for Ewan...

That's what I'm trying to do. The Piano was certainly a good movie for the people involved - it got several Oscar nominations.
I haven't seen it either, only bits and pieces, but my brother-in-law saw it and said it was fantastic. It's the one Adrian Brody got an Oscar for, and when he was accepting it from Halle Barry he planted a big kiss on her, dipped her and everything. You must have heard about that or seen pictures. It was pretty funny. I think the movie was also nominated for best picture and best director, if I remember correctly. I never watch the Oscars, but I like to know who's nominated and who wins. I love movies, always have.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm I really don't care for Adrian Brody.

I never watch the Oscars anymore...Since I don't see the films, I don't really have any favorites.

NOW if Ewan were to win or even be nominated or present, I would be sure to watch it...
